Scanners and phone-scanning apps routinely save pages in the wrong orientation — a stack fed short-edge-first comes out sideways, or one page photographed in landscape ends up turned relative to the rest. Rotate PDF fixes this in your browser, with no upload: you see every page as a thumbnail and turn only the ones that need it. Step by step: rotating a PDF in your browser
- Open the Rotate PDF tool, or click the "Rotate PDF" card on the home page.
- Click the drop zone or drag in your PDF. A thumbnail of every page appears below it.
- Click a page to rotate it 90 degrees clockwise. Click again for 180 degrees, a third time for 270, and a fourth time to return it to where it started.
- To turn the whole document, use "Rotate all left" or "Rotate all right". "Reset" puts every page back to its original orientation.
- Click "Process now." pdf-lib adds the rotation you chose to each page's existing rotation, without re-rendering anything.
- Your browser downloads rotated.pdf. Open it and check every page's orientation, not just the first.
Common mistakes
- Missing pages further down. Long documents show many thumbnails; scroll through all of them before processing.
- Trying to straighten a crooked scan. Page rotation only works in 90-degree steps, so it can't fix a scan that is tilted a few degrees.
- Selecting multiple files and expecting all of them to be rotated. Only the first file is processed.
- Overwriting the only copy. The download is always named rotated.pdf, so rename it and keep the original until you've checked the result.
FAQ
Can I rotate just one page instead of the whole PDF?
Yes. After you select the file, every page appears as a thumbnail. Click the page you want to turn and it rotates 90 degrees clockwise; the other pages stay as they are.
Can I choose a custom rotation angle, like 45 degrees?
No. PDF page rotation only supports quarter turns, so each click adds 90 degrees: click twice for 180 and three times for 270. A scan that is slightly crooked can't be straightened with page rotation.
Does rotating a PDF reduce its quality or make the text unselectable?
No. The tool only changes each page's rotation setting with pdf-lib. Pages are never re-rendered as images, so text stays selectable and searchable and there's no quality loss.
I selected several PDFs at once. Why was only one rotated?
The Rotate tool works on the first file in your selection. Rotate other files one at a time, or merge them first with the Merge tool if they should end up in one document.
Checklist before you send the rotated file
- Every thumbnail was checked, including pages further down the list
- Only the pages that needed it were rotated
- rotated.pdf was opened and each page's orientation confirmed
- Text is still selectable and searchable in the result
