A landlord emails you a lease, a school sends a permission form, or a client needs a signed quote back today, and you don't have a printer or scanner at hand. Sign PDF lets you draw your signature with a mouse, finger or stylus, or upload a picture of it, and place it on the page, all in your browser.
It's important to know what kind of signature this is. The tool adds a visual signature: an image of your handwriting on the page, like signing a printed sheet and scanning it. It isn't a certificate-based digital signature, which proves who signed and detects later changes. Many everyday documents accept a visual signature; if a contract requires an advanced or qualified electronic signature, use a signing service that provides one.
Step-by-step
- Open the Sign PDF tool, or click its card on the home page.
- Draw your signature in the box. "Clear" erases it so you can try again. You can also upload an image of your signature in PNG or JPG instead.
- Click the drop zone or drag in the PDF you need to sign. A preview of the last page appears; change "Page" to sign another one.
- Click on the preview where the signature should go. Click again to move it, and adjust "Signature size" until it fits the line.
- Tick "Put the signature on every page" if every page needs it, for example for initials.
- Click "Process now." Your browser downloads signed.pdf. Open it and check the signature's position before sending it.
Common mistakes
- Treating a visual signature as a certified one. It shows your handwriting but doesn't prove identity. Check whether the recipient requires a certified electronic signature.
- Uploading a photo of a signature on white paper. The paper shows as a white rectangle over the document. Use a PNG with a transparent background, or draw the signature in the box.
- Placing the signature before choosing the page. Pick the page first, then click to place the signature on its preview.
- Forgetting other pages that need initials. Use "Put the signature on every page", or run the tool again on signed.pdf for another page.
FAQ
Is this a legally valid electronic signature?
The tool adds a visual signature: an image of your handwriting placed on the page. Many everyday documents accept this, but it isn't a certificate-based digital signature, so it doesn't prove who signed or reveal later changes. If a contract requires an advanced or qualified electronic signature, use a signing service that provides one.
Can I sign more than one page?
Yes. Tick "Put the signature on every page" to place it in the same position on all pages, which is handy for initials. To sign two or three specific pages, run the tool again on the downloaded file and choose another page.
Is my signature stored anywhere?
No. You draw it in your browser, it's used only to build the file, and it's discarded when you close the tab. Neither the signature nor the PDF is uploaded.
Can I use a photo of my signature?
Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG. A PNG with a transparent background looks best; a photo of a signature on white paper will show the paper as a white rectangle.
